I will appreciate if you could assist me with this query. I am an assessor for the above qualifications and feel I am not given enough time to assess. Currently I am assessing 1.5 hours for 2 visits.
Could you please advise me roughly how many hours an assessor should have to carry out their assessments.
Thanks

Hi nvqawards
Not sure that I understand your question.
Do you spend 1.5 hours for each visit or 3/4 hour per visit?
The length of my visits depend on how much evidence there is to go through and whether I'm carrying out an observation or professional discussion. My visits vary from 1/2 hour to 1.5 hours usually.

Thanks Dave. I assess for
Thanks Dave. I assess for 1.5 hours and visit my learners twise as we are supposed to have holistic approach.
For BA how many time the learners are supposed to be observed and same goes for CS.
The learners send me the end product through emails and check and give them feedback as well but it is not paid.
I just need to know how many hours the assessor should have to complete a learner's work based assessment which could involve observation, end product, QA and professional discussion. I also take the group workshop and do some of the assessing in there as well.
In addition to your visits,
In addition to your visits, do you have time for additional assessment away from the candidate?
3 hours total for a whole award sounds low. However, is this is only one part of the assessment then things are different.
Also the starting point of the candidate will make a lot of difference. Someone who is competent and is easy to assess can be completed much quicker than someone who needs lots of training.
More information please.

You only visit TWICE?? That sounds like madness unless you are using e-portfolios.
My last two candidates had 10 visits each, average total contact time including induction, 11.25hours. Both completed in 5-6 months.
"For BA how many time the learners are supposed to be observed and same goes for CS" - what does this mean?
As Tom said, more info required - in plain English!

Two observations can be very effective for any type of portfolio. Why should eportfolio be different? Note that there are many different approaches to assessment.

Observations
Hi Tom
Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. My comment about e-portfolios was only directed at the number of visits made to a candidate which would be lower than using a paper based portfolio - I still think two visits is verging on madness.
Observation is a great evidence gathering tool for NVQ's and I always use them as often as I can. I can't really talk much about e-portfolios as I haven't used them myself as yet but I think they are a great step forward.
I ramble on........

2 visits? Ideas for more efficient delivery please
HI NVQAWARDS
We are trying to speed up delivery but 2 visits ! How do you manage to do a Business Admin NVQ, (with all the wide-ranging evidence required for the mandatories, let alone options) in this time. Seriously, I would love to know and learn from this.
I am now being paid under a 'special contract' with very ungenerous conditions. We are trying to achieve in 6 visits, and this is a struggle. Don't use e-portfolios but use DVR a lot. Any tips for speeding up welcome.
