In my younger years I was a fully qualified HNC Engineer but due to the gradual demise on engineering in this country I found myself drifting into Architecture.
I have worked in Architecture and the Construction Industry since 1990 and considered to be at the top of my game so far as competence and complexity is concerned.
Many past projects that I have principly been involved with have won prestigious awards yet I have no formal qualifications in architecture whatsoever.
I also have advanced knowledge and proven practical skills in plumbing and electrics but again have no formal qualifications.
My skills and knowledge base is kept upto date with 100's of hours of CPD each year.
To obtain the qualifications I need do I have to attend (and pay for) a training course to teach me things I already know or can my skill level be assessed to prove I already achieve the equivelent level?
If assessment is possible how does it work in practice?
You need to talk to a
You need to talk to a training organisation about using accreditation of prior learning. Universities can be quite good for this.

NVQ Equivelency?
Hi Richard
An NVQ is not a course but a recognition of current occupational competence.
What you could do is go onto the City & Guilds web site and look through the relevant skills that you want qualifications in and then locate a training provider who offers that NVQ.
As you are at the top of your game, you will probably be looking at a level 4 NVQ. You would be required to produce a portfolio of evidence to prove your competence according to the standards laid down by the awarding body (City & Guilds).
Hope this helps
