I have been asked to teach on the new assessor programme and am struggling to find any resources. I do not really want to just put the standards and LO's on the board and talk through them so was wondering if anybody has any ideas or resources such as ppt's, video etc
Thanks
Hi Nick No magic solution
Hi Nick
No magic solution here, althrough there may be commercial products available. Has anyone any experience of using these?
My own practice was to ensure all learners had access to the 'official' sources of information. Such as guidance and regulatory documents from the awarding body, sector skills council and OFQUAL etc. They will also need the assessment centre policies for the centre that they are working with.
My main method of training was on-the-job shadowing an experienced assessor/IQA. I tended to find that providing large amounts of information in a classroom runs the risk of overload - you could use practical sessions using actual paperwork to simulate this or a video would be great. By watching a person do the job, it is much easier to understand how things work in practice.
I hope this helps

New assessor qualifications
Cheers Tom
Thats pretty much what I thought. This new OCR Unit 'Understanding the princibles and practice of assessment' is theory only so will have to be classroom delivered. I was hoping to find some other way of evidencing competency other than going down the assignment route. I wondered what others were doing?
Yes, that unit looks a bit
Yes, that unit looks a bit dry! I am sure you will make the classroom interaction much more interesting. Also I notice that the OCR handbook does give you a free rein in assessment methods for assessing so long as it is valid for knowledge. Does not have to be an assignment or questions. Gives you a bit more scope.
Possibly it would be easier with an holistic approach where the competence based units are being assessed together with this unit. Then this knowledge could come out of evidence from practice. However, if you remit is the one unit then this is not relevant.
Again, I would be very interested what others are doing with this.

I am in the same boat
Hi Nick I am going through the same issues however I have come across Anne Gravells Principles and practice of Assesment in the Life long sector. It has has been published this year so does cover the new QCF qualification, and I am definately going to recommend it to my learners.
We have this in our Amazon
Thanks for the recommendation. We have this in our Amazon bookshop look here...

Can anyone else suggest resources for this?

Customer Service/Business Admin Knowledge Questions
Hi, I a newly qualified assessor in Business Admin and Customer Service. I need help with setting the Assessment Criteria- mandatory units as questions that will cover the knowledge and skills requirements. A friend gave me the idea of setting the questions using the assessment criteria to avoid any complications. Any ideas please!
Thanks
