Firstly, am I correct in understanding that the knowledge component - Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care (QCF) - is the same as the mandatory units of the Diploma at the same level?
That being the case, can we use the Level 2 Certificate to claim recognition of prior achievement against all of the mandatory units of the Diploma? That would leave the optional units of the Diploma to be assessed as normal.
Thanks,
Matt
Hi Matt
Hi Matt
Some are identical, however if you put the units from the two qualifications side by side there are differences in most. Most of this is where the similiar unit in the Diploma is competence based and not just knowledge.
You need to be careful on how you use the evidence from the certificate within the diploma. Should be straightforward but do check with your centre policy on how to present this. I am hearing of some confusion around this area.

Hi Tom,
Hi Tom,
Thanks for getting back to me.
We currently use the Edexcel BTEC Apprenticeship assessment workbook, and the activities have been mapped by Edexcel to the same assessment criteria for the Diploma and technical certificate. That's what made me think that we could RPL the certificate for the Diploma mandatory units.
I will check with our SV at his next visit though and let you know how we get on.
Cheers,
Matt
Hi Matt
Hi Matt
One other thing to consider it that qualification assessment strategy, which means that observation will be a requirement for competence based units. Information on this will be in the awarding organisation qualification guidance. The tech cert can be covered with assignments alone as this is contains only knowledge based units.
